Language Nerds Do Earth

Episode 11: The Joys of Eating and Traveling

This topic is long overdue. We’re not really sure why it took 11 whole episodes to get there, alas here we are. In this episode we share some of our favorite mouth-watering dishes we’ve tried in our travels around the world. From pho in Vietnam to burek in the Balkans, come along for this virtual taste tour. Other highlights include: curry in Kathmandu, chilaquiles and tacos in Mexico, and basically ALL food in Italy. Just be forewarned, you might want to have a snack or take-out menu handy for the inevitable moment when the munchies strike! We also give some tips for how to find the tastiest, most authentic foods and restaurants while traveling, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner.

In Language News, it turns out there is only one universal facial expression. This seems a little counterintuitive, since we tend to think of facial expressions as innate, and even more surprisingly is the expression itself—the “not face.” To read more about it, click here (where you can also see the face in action) for the article from Language Trainers.

For our Lost in Translation segment, we get to hear one of Patrice’s own stories (though this time she was not the one misunderstanding!).

What is your favorite food you’ve tried while traveling? If you have something we should know about, let us know in the comments or send us a message. We’d love to see pictures, too!

Don’t forget to leave us a review on iTunes, and send us your Lost in Translation moments! Also, very exciting, you can now record your moments in our contact section so you don’t need to send us a voicemail. If you run out of time (the limit is 90 seconds), send us 2!

Here is the blog post Rachel wrote about torrijas. Plus a picture of her enjoying them!
