All right, folks. Have you ever wondered what sports lay beyond your typical football (soccer for our fellow Americans), basketball, and tennis? Well, whether you were aware or not, there is a whole world of rich athletic traditions from all over the world that are well worth exploring!
We’re here this week to tell you about a small sampling of some of the sports you may never have heard of (hats off to you if you have!) but that you will definitely want to know about. From a hybrid football-volleyball game from Malaysia to a dignified Viking-era martial art, we give you a nice little sampling. To top it off, we share some of the strangest (though perhaps less traditional) sports we found when we scoured the internet.
In language news this week, we hear from David Peterson, the creator of the fictional languages in the Game of Thrones series. In the article profiling him on CNN, Peterson talks about what it’s like to make a fictional language, how he got the legendary job, and his favorite actors on the show when it comes to acting in his made-up languages.
