Language Nerds Do Earth

Episode 45: Traveling in Germany

Have you ever been to Germany or wanted to plan a trip? Well, in this episode we give you some useful tips for getting around, places we’ve loved, and a bit of the history to make you a better informed traveller. You’ll also hear advice on packing, traveling on the cheap, and even a bit about bringing your furry companions with you!

In Language News, we discuss a trend that’s incredibly important: changing the language we use when talking about the climate crisis to be a more accurate description. Instead of using terms like “climate change” or “global warming,” major news outlets are swapping these milder terms for “climate emergency” or “global heating” to paint a clearer picture of what’s actually occurring.

Finally, don’t miss Patrice’s very funny Lost in Translation story with her Chinese students (who may have thought she was a little strange). Moral of the story: tones are hard, especially if you’re new to the concept!

Here are some of the resources we used this week:

Don’t forget to leave us your Lost in Translation moments in the contact section, leave us a review on iTunes, and tell your friends! Thanks for listening and see you next week!
